Before Importation of any Vehicle In Singapore

You are advised to check with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) at
Tel : 1800-225-5582 or visit their website : http://www.lta.gov.sg for the latest requirement.

Importing New & Used Motor Vehicles into Singapore

If you intend to import your own new motor vehicles into Singapore, you must complete the “Declaration of Facts for Motor Vehicles” available at www.customs.gov.sg and fax/courier to 55 Newton Road, Revenue House No - 07-01
Documentation Specialists Branch (Motor Vehicle Unit) accompanied with the following documents:

  1. Commercial invoice
  2. Bill of Lading (B/L)
  3. Freight and Insurance Paper
  4. Documents relating to exhaust emission test, windscreen test, etc.,
  5. Vehicle’s registration and/or de-registration documents (if previously registered)
  6. Vehicle Data Card
  7. Manufacturer’s letter confirming the date of manufacture of the vehicle.

Remember : Please be advised that under LTA regulation only used motor vehicles less than 3 years of age from the date of its first registration in a foreign country can be registered for use in Singapore. A surcharge of $10,000 is payable for each imported used car registered in Singapore. You may refer to http://www.onemotoring.com.sg for more information.

Custom Duty for Importing Own Motor Vehicles into Singapore
Based on the current duty rates (below), duty and GST (Goods & Services Tax) can be computed as follows:
Type of Motor Vehicles for Importing Custom Duty Rate
  Motor Car   20%
  Motorcycle/scooter   12%
  Electric Bicycle   12%
Duty = (Duty Rate x Customs Value)
GST = (Customs Value + Duty) x 7%
Payment for Custom Duty and GST for Motor Vehicle
On receipt of the customs value of your motor vehicle, you can apply for a Customs Payment Permit to pay the duty and GST to Singapore Customs. You may appoint an agent to lodge the declaration on your behalf. Please note that duty and GST paid will not be refunded once the vehicle has been removed from Customs control/FTZ.
Documents Required for Imported Vehicle in Singapore
  1. An Ownership Transfer form completed by both the current registered owner and the buyer
  2. Identification documents of both the registered owner and buyer for verification.
  3. Original motor insurance certificate in the buyer’s name. Ensure that the insurance policy of the motor vehicle is already in force on the transfer date and covers the full period of the Vehicle’s Road Tax.
  4. Original and valid vehicle inspection certificate, if vehicle inspection is required prior to the renewal of road tax.
