Import Car into Jamaica
  1. Vehicle ShippingAny Jamaican citizen over 18 years old can import two motor vehicles (one light commercial vehicle and one motor car) in any three year period.

  3. The Motor Vehicle Importation Policy is primarily administered by the Trade Board Limited, which is the Government Agency responsible for granting the Order and Clearance Permit or Import Licence you will require to bring a motor vehicle into Jamaica.

The importer must first secure from the Trade Board. This application must be accompanied by the following items:-
  1. Importing a used vehicle, you should supply an odometer statement.
  2. If your own the vehicle you should provide a certificate of title or registration document.
  3. If the vehicle is new, you should get a pro-form invoice from the dealer, detailing the model, accessories, and c.i.f. value.
  4. You should also provide two forms of identification which may be any of the following:
    • Passport
    • Driver’s License
    • Voter’s Registration Card, or
    • National Indentification Card.
Custom Duties on Imported Car in Jamaica
Under Section 19 of the Customs Act, “a duty of Customs is chargeable on the value of the imported goods at the time of importation.
This duty is charged on the CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) value of the goods, when converted into Jamaican currency.”
