RMI warn consumers ‘Don’t delay servicing’
“With the complexities of the modern motor car the implications of missing services could be serious with regard to safety and cost. If the only time a motor industry professional looks at a car is at its annual MOT then the failure rate is destined to increase and a reactive repair will leave the consumer vulnerable to higher repair bills” commented RMI Director, Stuart James responding to a recent survey by Manheim Auctions on car servicing.
The survey indicated that ‘almost a fifth of motorists think servicing their car is a complete waste of money and only do so when they can afford it rather than when it is recommended’.
With the cost of motoringgreater than ever, ‘motorists are treating services as a nice to do not a need to do’ which could greatly affect the safety and reliability of their vehicles.
The research also found that over a third of motorist’s think of their car maintenance skills as poor or very poor, relying on either a garage or family member for help.
James continued “Although motorists need to be aware of routine car maintenance such as checking tyre pressures and topping up oil, it is important that motorists understand that servicing work needs to be carried out by professionals for their own safety.”
