Best way to Import used Vehicles in Bangladesh

Since Independence in 1971 good relations are maintained between Japan and Bangladesh as Japan helped Bangladesh in its independence war. More than 90 percent of Bangladesh’s imported cars, trucks, buses are reconditioned or used cars, mainly from Japan. Despite the high cost of transportation, the purchase of used cars and other vehicles from Japan to most countries is still profitable, due to the relatively low cost and good condition of the vehicles being exported from reliable Japanese used car dealers.
In year 2010 a total of 33,000 cars were imported, bit lower than 37,634 cars in 2009. But demand for used vehicles is rising in Bangladesh.
Know the rules to import used vehicles in Bangladesh:
1. No importation for vehicles more than four years old.
2. A certificate containing age, model number and chassis number of the used car will have to be submitted to the customs authority from Japan Auto Appraisal Institute (JAAI).

How Customs Valuation is done

The customs valuation of imported goods is done for assessment and realization of customs duty based on the normal value concept. Custom duties are generally assessed on the basis of the CIF (cost, insurance, freight and other charges cost of goods). Duties are collected by Customs authorities under the Bangladesh Customs and Excise Departments of the Ministry of Finance’s National Board of Revenue.

What Duties are applicable

1. Customs duty rates have been compressed to a range of 0.0-40.0%.
2. The 2.5% import permit fee is the only other protective instrument for most imports. The import permit system is now automatic.
3. A Trade Neutral 15% value-added tax is also applied
4. A 2.5% infrastructure development surcharge is levied on imports.
5. A supplementary duty is payable on luxury items like cars with engine capacity greater than 1,000 cc.
6. Used car importers need to pay 20% to 350 % duties on different slabs.
7. Members of Parliament can Import cars free of Custom Duties.

Import Licenses not required:
Import licenses are not required for any imported items except those on the restricted list. However, importers need to use Letter of Credit Authorization (LCA) forms to import goods.

Import Documentation required:
Unless otherwise specified, all imports transacted through a bank require a Letter of Credit Authorization (LCA) Form.

Honda joins Clean Energy Partnership with 2 FCX Clarity vehicles

Honda and the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP) have announced that Honda will become the newest member of the CEP program, providing further impetus to the hydrogen movement in Europe.

CEP is Europe’s leading fuel cell vehicle and hydrogen infrastructure demonstration project, bringing together expertise from vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure and energy companies, and the German Government. CEP is designed to prepare the ground for market entry of hydrogen mobility in Europe.

Honda has been running fuel cell electric vehicles on European roads since 2009 and will support CEP activities with 2 FCX Clarity fuel cell electric vehicles.

Ken Keir, Executive Vice President of Honda Motor Europe said, “Honda firmly believes that hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles are the ultimate solution in reducing CO2 emissions from road transportation. Participation within CEP with the ground breaking FCX Clarity will demonstrate the viability of fuel cell technology and will also support the essential development of a European hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.”

Honda joins the Partnership at the same time as the industrial gas supply company, Air Liquide, demonstrating CEP’s value in bringing together vehicle manufacturers and energy companies to support the development of hydrogen based mobility in Europe.

Dr. Klaus Bonhoff, Chairman & Managing Director of NOW GmbH1, remarked: “The CEP is the NIP’s2 nucleus for preparing the market for future proof mobility based on hydrogen and fuel cells. The partnership’s continuous growth clearly demonstrates the industry’s commitment to making zero-emissions mobility possible. We have to cooperate internationally to achieve this, which makes the addition of Air Liquide and Honda to the CEP all the more important. “

1 NOW GmbH: National Organisation for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology whose mission is to coordinate and manage market preparation programs for products and applications based on hydrogen, fuel cell and battery electric powertrain technology. NOW is a German state organization. It is wholly owned by the federal government, represented by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS).

2 NIP: The German National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology, run by Federal Ministry of Transportation.

GMC Yukon Earns AutoPacific’s Vehicle Satisfaction Award

1305807075473DETROIT – GMC Yukon took top honors in the full-size SUV category of AutoPacific’s 15th annual Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, the Southern California-based automotive marketing and consulting firm announced Thursday.

Vehicles like the GMC Yukon that score highest in the Vehicle Satisfaction Awards are delivering value and satisfaction across a wide range of attributes,” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. “The winners perform well in 48 separate categories that objectively measure the ownership experience.”

The awards are based on the firm’s survey of more than 68,000 vehicle owners.

Earlier this year, Yukon topped the full-size SUV category of IntelliChoice’s 2011 Best Overall Values of the Year (BOVY) awards, based on analysis of ownership costs, including depreciation, maintenance, repairs, fuel, fees, financing and insurance.

Automotive critics also laud the Yukon. Truck Trend magazine recently named GMC Yukon the “Best in Class 2011 Full-Size SUV,” citing the fuel-efficient hybrid model, active fuel management, up-to-nine-passenger seating and 8,200-pound towing capacity as strengths.

“A premium truck brand can still represent great value in the market place with outstanding resale values and the lowest cost of ownership,” said John Schwegman, U.S. vice president of GMC Marketing.

Gabriele del Torchio takes delivery of new company car

“I’m already looking forward to having fun at the wheel of the new CLS 63 AMG, which to me really seems to offer the perfect synthesis of power, elegance and efficiency. We are working hard on the implementation of the first joint projects between AMG and Ducati”, commented Gabriele del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.

“The cooperation agreement signed with Ducati at the Los Angeles Show in November 2010 is already bearing fruit - as you can see from the joint activities that are now getting under way. We can’t wait to hear Gabriele del Torchio’s thoughts on the new CLS 63 AMG”, said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Along with Gabriele del Torchio, Ducati MotoGP works rider Nicky Hayden (29, USA) also recently became the owner of a CLS 63 AMG. The motorcycle world champion of 2006 received his own high-performance coupé from Ola Källenius in Affalterbach in April 2011 in the presence of the AMG workforce, by whom he was welcomed as a new member of the AMG family.

The four-door coupé as the ultimate in top performance
The CLS 63 AMG features the AMG V8 biturbo engine with maximum power of up to 410 kW (557 hp) and 800 newton metres of torque, along with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. The vehicle’s fuel consumption of 9.9 litres per 100 km according to NEDC represents an improvement of 32 percent over the previous model - making this power pack the most efficient high-performance V8 engine in the world. The combination of the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping system and new front axle, the newly developed electromechanical AMG sports parameter steering and the optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system adds up to the ultimate in driving dynamics. Visually, the CLS 63 AMG impresses with its athletic appearance and its distinctive exterior and interior design. The standard specification also includes the new LED High Performance headlamps.

Cooperation and initiation of joint customer events
Thanks to AMG’s role as the Official Car Partner of the MotoGP team, the AMG logo will be showing throughout the 2011 season not only on the motorcycles and racing overalls of Ducati works riders Valentino Rossi (Italy) and Nicky Hayden (US), but also on the official teamwear and in the Ducati Lounge. Since the early part of 2011, all team trucks and back-up vehicles have come from Mercedes-Benz. The complete company fleet at Ducati’s headquarters has also been switched to Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

2012 Honda Civic Turns Macy’s Store Window Into New-Model Showroom

The fashion-forward 2012 Honda Civic Coupe, wearing the official livery of an IZOD IndyCar pace car, has taken up residence in the windows of the Herald Square and Roosevelt Macy’s stores to promote the Civic Racing Style sweepstakes heralding the arrival of the all-new, ninth generation Honda Civic.

Visitors to the Herald Square and Roosevelt Field Macy’s stores, or to any of 53 participating New York-area Honda dealerships, are eligible to join the Honda contest. Eleven (11) top-prize winners in the Civic Racing Style sweepstakes will win a 2012 Honda Civic LX Coupe and a $2,500 IZOD shopping spree. Twenty (20) runners up will win a “second chance” trip for two to the IZOD IndyCar World Championship race in Las Vegas, Nevada, which includes one more opportunity to win a 2012 Civic.

In addition to the Civic Racing Style sweepstakes, visitors to the Macy’s and Honda stores will be eligible to enter a second contest, the Honda Fastest Seat in Sports sweepstakes, in which winners will have the opportunity to ride along with legendary racecar driver Mario Andretti in a specially prepared, two-seat IndyCar for the start of an upcoming IZOD IndyCar race.

“Teaming with iconic brands like Macy’s and IZOD and offering consumers chances to win a new Honda Civic and the experience of starting an IndyCar race with Mario Andretti makes this one of the most unique promotions we have undertaken, there is nothing like it in sports,” said Richard Kent, senior marketing manager at American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

This unique partnership brings together Honda, Macy’s and IZOD, the presenting sponsor of the 2011 IndyCar season, to promote three of the world’s most popular consumer brands along with America’s preeminent open-wheel racing series, in conjunction with the launch of the all-new, completely redesigned 2012 Honda Civic, which is the ninth generation of Honda’s fast, fun and fuel efficient compact car.

The winners of the Honda’s Fastest Seat in Sports sweepstakes will be given an all-expenses-paid trip for two (3 nights/2 days) to one of four upcoming IndyCar races along with an all-access pass for two to the raceway, and $1,000 worth of IZOD apparel will be able to lead the start of an IndyCar race in the two-seat IndyCar driven by Mario Andretti. Participating races are the Firestone Twin 275s in Fort Worth, TX (6/11); the Honda Indy 200 in Lexington, Ohio (8/7); the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma in Sonoma, CA (8/28); and the Baltimore Grand Prix in Baltimore, MD (9/4).

The New Nissan Micra; Urban Chic

As it breaks new ground for small car fuel economy and leads the class in minimising your carbon footprint, while remaining astoundingly refined whether in traffic or cruising the highway, the new Micra has not forsaken day to day practicality for its formidable modernity.

In fact highlighting once again just how versatile the new V-platform is, the new Micra has grown very slightly in size while having its overall weight reduced compared to the previous model. The architecture of the structure calls for a flat fuel tank located beneath the rear seats, and the position optimised to provide plenty of space for rear-seat passengers as well as a substantial 265l load area easily accessible via the perfectly-formed rear hatch. Front seat passengers also get to enjoy more leg room thanks to the minimal wheelhouse intrusion and relocated pedal configuration.

The cabin actually feels a lot roomier than the modest size increase would explain due to the application of this smart engineering. A conscious decision was taken to retain the core appeal of this type of vehicle, characterised by compact wieldy dimensions and the agility of a small city car to take much of the pressure out of navigating often traffic-clogged and narrow city lanes, and the new Micra is quite obviously still very much in sync with these sorts of surroundings. Made for them, actually.

Supporting the lack of intimidating bulk in cut and thrust situations, the glass area has been designed to rekindle fond memories of previous versions of the Micra family from the outside while providing great all-round visibility for the driver, making it even easier to place the Micra whether in gridlock or squeezing into a small parking space. The rounded front fenders frame the good downward vision angle created by the design of the bonnet to make precision placement of the new Micra into even the tightest of spots straightforward.

Also assisting the delivery of confidence-inspiring manoeuvrability is the class-leading turning circle of the new Micra, at just 9.3m kerb to kerb. Ideally suited to the unique challenges of urban driving, this trait ensures that the new Micra will fit right in with ease wherever you may go, from the tight confines of Franschhoek to the wide open roads of California. This is a truly global vehicle, and will be sold in 160 countries around the world, and this versatility is a key asset.

The new Micra provides a wealth of oddments stowage areas for driver and passengers to utilise as required, and is the most cost-effective to run based on the impressive 5.2l/100km combined cycle economy results. It’s a car which is entirely in tune with the modern city and the needs of those who live and drive here, and has been designed from the outset to reduce the stress levels of modern motorists navigating tight, congested streets.

Nissan Shifts The Way Amakhosi Fans Move

Diehard Amakhosi fans, who participated in the five-month long Nissan Shift and Win competition, are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winner of a brand new Qashqai 2.0 Acenta. Only seven finalists have been selected after participating in various activities throughout the soccer season. The draw will take place on 14 May 2011 at the Kaizer Chiefs Village, Naturena.

As official sponsor for Kaizer Chiefs, this is the 8th year of Nissan South Africa’s association with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) club.

“Nissan views its partnership with PSL clubs as an opportunity to promote our brand to both established and emerging markets through our association with high profile soccer players and their significant support base,” said Johan Kleynhans, Nissan SA’s Marketing, Sales and Aftersales Director. “We have already made inroads by engaging with fans at Kaizer Chiefs home matches and at carwashes from Pimville to Edenvale.”

This year’s competition finalists were selected after participating in one of a variety of activities including test drive activations, stadium activations and a Kaizer Chiefs TV SMS competition. The lucky winner will drive away in the brand new Nissan 2.0 litre petrol engine Acenta complete with standard service plan and warranty.

On a day that promises a variety of fun activities including guided tours of the soccer team’s training village, visitors will also enjoy an opportunity to meet some of the Kaizer Chiefs player.

Alpheus Khumalo, winner of a NP200 in last year’s competition, still marvels at his luck. “Winning the car was a blessing from God,” said Khumalo who, at the time, was struggling financially. The lucky winner discovered he was a finalist some time after test driving a Nissan car at the Majita car wash in Pimville.

Volkswagen Golf claims coveted Fleet World Honours crown

c-fleethonoursawardThe Volkswagen Golf has claimed the coveted Fleet World Honours Award for Best Lower Medium Car of 2011, adding another title to its name. The trophy was presented at a special ceremony at the Royal Automobile Club in London.

The Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers, service companies and individuals who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector.

Fleet World Editor, Steve Moody, said: ‘The Volkswagen Golf just keeps performing, whatever point in its lifecycle, and the Mark VI is no different. Strong residual values, dependable on-fleet performance and classy styling mean it never goes out of fashion. And in BlueMotion guise it does something few cars can do: it matches its on-paper claims.’

The judging panel is chaired by Steve Moody, and includes Ken Rogers, Natalie Wallis, John Kendall, Alex Grant and Ross Durkin from the Fleet World editorial team. Residual value, maintenance cost and reliability data is provided by ALD Automotive, Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions and ING Car Lease. Market value data is provided by EurotaxGlass, while fleet registrations data is provided by SMMT.

The award was collected by Lee Rabjohn, Volkswagen’s Regional Fleet Manager, who commented: ‘I’m delighted to receive this award on behalf of the brand. The Golf has long been a fleet stalwart – and it’s a huge credit to the car that it continues to win awards such as this. Vehicles that appeal to drivers and fleet managers in equal measure are not easy to find, but the Golf consistently remains one such car.’

In addition to its Fleet World Honour, the Golf also holds the titles of ACFO Car of the Year, Fleet News Best Lower Medium Car and What Car? Best Small Family Car.
